Footprint of China Auto International Exhibition Tour
The November of 2008 witnessed the great success of the Sixth China Auto International (Algeria & Egypt) Exhibition Tour. No matter where it reached, the exhibition tour received active response and high participation from the local news media, agencies and people. The activity not only took the Chinese homegrown automobile brands to the beautiful African nations, but also sent the greetings from the Chinese people to the friends in Algeria and Egypt.
   China Auto International Exhibition Tour is co-organized by China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and China Machinery Industry Federation. The international exhibition automobile team, which is composed of China’s homegrown brands and represents the independent research, development and manufacturing level of Chinese automobile industry, has crossed Asian and European continents in the previous six sessions, reaching Vietnam, Cambodia, Syria, Russia and other countries, by forms of circuit exhibitions and fixed exhibitions, to prompt international economic and trade exchange.
 
The first attempt to create the new pattern of auto exhibition
China Auto International Exhibition Tour was held for the first time in 1995 as an important pioneering undertaking. The tour team traveled around half of China. The success of the activity opened the door of the exhibition tour and was of great significance to the development of China’s auto industry. After that exhibition tour, the new pattern of Chinese Auto International Exhibition Tour attained the high recognition and praise from Chinese automakers and the overseas agencies. It is the new pattern that attempts to display the newly products made by Chinese automakers. In addition, the exhibition tour gave the organizing committee and China auto enterprises great confidence to keep on.
 
The second step to drive on the road of Vietnam
   This is the first time that China Auto International Exhibition Tour walked out of the country and drove on the road of Vietnam to display their products in 2003. Being the neighbor of China and as a potential market, Vietnam has kept high economic growth since reform and opening-up. The Chinese made large-scaled coaches, SUVs and mini vehicles received great attention from the local people. The following year witnessed the Chinese automaker including FAW, DFM, Changan Motor and JAV seizing the opportunities to further explore the Vietnamese market. In May, 2004, Vietnamese President attended the signing ceremony between Chinese carmakers DFM and Yuchai and their counterpart Vietnam Da Nang Machinery Company.
 
The third session in Cambodia to expand the influence of China auto brands
The friendship between China and Cambodia has a long history. The China automobiles travel across the Indo-China Peninsula and got warm welcome from the local people due to the low price and good quality of the Chinese automobiles and living standard of this developing country. The exhibition included seven displays and trade cooperation negotiations with an audience of about 100,000. The dominant position of Japan and Korea in the Southeastern Asian market no longer existed, since then when Chinese autos had their roots in this market. Through the exhibition tour, Chinese auto brands laid a solid foundation to further expand their influence abroad.
 
The fourth tour in Syria – an ideal exporting destination for China auto
Syria is an ideal exporting destination for Chinese automobile enterprises. The auto industry in Syria is on starting stage, and the demand of all kinds of autos is large in the golden period of Syria economic development. Therefore, the supply and demand gap is mainly bridged by import. June 1st, 2005, Syria reduced the tariff of auto importing, so more and more Chinese automakers were ready to set up factories. The spring of 2006 welcomed the 4th China Auto International Exhibition Tour to the beautiful Arabian country. A motorcade of 33 Chinese brand vehicles, which were from famous carmakers such as FAW, DFM, Foton, JAV, Jiangling, Changhe, Hafei and Yutong, made quite a splash when going through cities including Dmascusm Aleppo and Lattakia. This Exhibition Tour had far-reaching influence in the Syrian market and its surrounding Arabian countries and regions.
 
The fifth exhibition tour in Russia – as one of the series activities of Russia’s China Year
Being the first large country that imported autos from China in 2006, Russia only ranked the 6th in 2005. Therefore, when the organizing committee decided that the 5th China Auto International Exhibition Tour would be held in Russia, many automakers showed great interests. The participating Chinese auto and auto parts enterprises include: China FAW, DFM, SAIC, FOTON, JMC, Shaanxi Automobile, ZXAUTO, Brilliance Auto, Changhe, Liaoning SG Automotive, Weichai Power and Guangdong Yangcheng Automobile. All the participating brands are famous Chinese homegrown and represent the independent research, development and manufacturing level of Chinese automobile industry. All the autos are newly off-line products. For instance, FAW WEIZHI, SAIC ROEWE, ISTANA, Brilliance Junjie, etc. are economic, middle and high level autos exhibited in overseas markets for the first time. Somebrand autos, for instance, DFM, JAC, FOTON Light lorry, FAW, Shaanxi Automobile heavy duty lorry, automatization unloading lorry, and tractors, etc. had around great interests and concerns of the Russian auto sales agents. This session has lasted for ten days in Russia. The whole journey was as long as nearly 2000 kilometers. The exhibition tour, including three auto exhibitions respectively in S.t. Petersburg, Moscow and Kazan, has attacted thousands of citizens and auto fans.
 
The sixth journey – the new chapter of China-Africa cooperation
    The population of Africa accounts for 14 percent of the world total, however, the sales volume of automobile is only 1.3 million per year, accounting for 2.2 percent of the world auto output. Obviously, Africa is a very promising market. The year of 2008 marked the 50th anniversiry of the establishment of Sino-Algerian diplomatic relationship, which opened a new chapter for the automobile trade between the two countries. Meanwhile, automobiles have become a part of daily life in Egypt since 1960s due to the economic development and relative high auto manufacturing level. Therefore, the automible exhibition team enjoyed great support from the local agencies and people. During the 12-day journey, the tour delegation arrived in Egypt and carried on exchange activities locally. After that, the automobile team reached Algeria and hold fixed exhibitions and exhibition tours in Oran, Algiers, Constantine, Annaba and other cities.
 
 
Over the past 20 years, China has speeded up to build Chinese auto brands, which is an important part of the made-in-China program advocated by the nation. Just with the aid of the opportunities, China automakers could seek for further development involving taking a presence in domestic and accessing to the overseas market. China Auto International Exhibition Tour provides a sound platform to make China’s automobile of independent brands better-known internationally and presents the most advanced technologies and features of China’s auto industry.
Due to the current global financial crisis, automobile producers in the U.S. and Japan have already scaled down their production. What’s more, the consumption in developed countries has shrunk.
