While the forthcoming Audi R8 Spyder is no secret, rumor has it that Audi will unveil an electric-powered version of its supercar at the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show this fall.

The concept is said to use only electric power, but it could have the capacity to sport a diesel engine as a range-extending generator. Drivers of an electric R8 would miss out on one of the best things about the car: the incredible exhaust note. Other than that, the instantaneous torque of an electric motor could make an electric R8 just as fun as its petrol-powered brethren.
         Will this see EV ever seen production? Only time will tell, but we wouldn’t put it completely past Audi — BMW is rumored to be considering a “green” supercar of its own, and an electric R8 could prove to be a great competitor.
