FAW Group Corporation
FAW Group Corporation, formerly First Automobile Works, is China’s oldest and largest automotive manufacturer. Headquartered in China’s northeastern city of Changchun within Jilin Province, the company can trace its roots back to July 15, 1953 when the cornerstone of its first vehicle assembly plant was laid. Over a span of five decades, FAW Group has evolved into one of the world’s largest vehicle producers. The company’s line-up of passenger cars, ranging from affordable compacts to luxury performance sedans, includes MPVs, SUVs and versatile mini vehicles. Renowned in the commercial market for its outstanding light, medium and heavy trucks, FAW Group is also a leader in the bus, coach and bus chassis industry. The company has delivered over 10 million vehicles since its inception.
FAW Group has Sino-foreign joint venture production facilities and technical licensing agreements with ArvinMeritor, Bharat Forge, Daihatsu, Denso, Deutz AG, Johnson Controls, Koyo, Mazda, ThyssenKrupp, Tokico, Toyota, TRW, Valeo, Volkswagen AG, Zexel and ZF Friedrichshafen AG.
FAW Group has 30 wholly-owned subsidiaries and controlling interest in 18 partially owned subsidiaries. Among these are wholly owned subsidiaries FAW Jiefang Truck Company and  Fawer Automotive Parts Company. Pulicly traded units on the Shenzhen and Shanghai stock exchanges include FAW Car Company, Tianjin FAW Xiali Automobile Company and FAW Sichuan Automotive Company.
FAW Group’s total assets are currently valued at US$18.0 billion. The company employs over 132,000 employees around the world.
FAW Group moved rapidly ahead again on Fortune Magazine’s 2008 Fortune Global 500, ranking 303th, after placing 385th in 2007 and 470th in 2006. The company also ranked number one again amongst China’s top 500 manufacturers for 2008. Sales revenue in 2007 reached US$26.4 billion with profits of US$659.8 million.

International Cooperation
I. FAW - Volkswagen
FAW-Volkswagen Automobile Co. Ltd. is a large-scale joint venture passenger car manufacturer between FAW Group Corporation and Volkswagen AG, with share investments of 60% and 40% respectively. Volkswagen's 40 percent investment is divided between Volkswagen AG (20 percent), Audi AG (10 percent), and Volkswagen Automobile (China) Investment Co., Ltd. (10 percent).
FAW-Volkswagen Automobile Co. Ltd. was established in 1991, with the first A2 Jetta automobile rolling off the assembly line on December 5th of that year. Audi AG became a member of the partnership in 1995, and full scale production commenced in July of 1996. Government approval for construction of a new factory with an annual capacity of 150,000 units was received in 1997.
The company covers an area of 1.16 million square meters with a total investment of 11.13 billion Yuan and registered capital of 3.71 billion Yuan.
Following 10 years of continuous construction and development, the product offerings of FAW-Volkswagen have extended from the Jetta sedan to include the Bora IV, Caddy MPV, Golf IV, Magotan (European Passat), Sagitar (European Jetta), Audi A4 and A6L. The luxurious extended wheelbase A6L is produced exclusively by FAW-Volkswagen. Production capacity had reached an annual output level of 330,000 vehicles, 300,000 engines and 180,000 transmissions.
On July 1, 2003, the board of directors of FAW-VW Automobile Co. Ltd. approved the construction of FAW-Volkswagen's Plant II, while simultaneously increasing the total investment from 11.13 billion Yuan to 23.435 billion Yuan (US $2.8 billion) with a registered capital increase from 3.71 billion Yuan to 7.812 billion Yuan (US $945 million). With the completion of Plant II, FAW-Volkswagen's production capacity was effectively doubled to 660,000 units annually.
Plant II consists of 4 production areas, including stamping, welding and sub-assembly, painting and sub-assembly, and final assembly. Plant II production currently focuses on PQ35 platform models which include the Caddy MPV, Golf IV, Magotan, and Sagitar.
 
II. FAW - Toyota
On August 29, 2002, FAW Group Corporation and Toyota Motor Corporation signed a significant agreement in Beijing at the Great Hall of the People, to establish a strategic and long-term cooperative relationship for joint cooperation. Thereafter, the two parties commenced a wide scope of joint activities including wide-scale production of Toyota products in China and related transfers of technology.
 
III. FAW - Mazda
FAW Mazda Motor Sales Co. Ltd. (FMSC) is a joint venture company established on March 1, 2005 by FAW Group, FAW Car Co. Ltd. (FCC), and Mazda Motor Corporation. The registered capital of the new joint venture is US $13.7 million, with FAW Group holding a 5 percent stake, FAW Car with 70 percent and Mazda Motor Corporation holding 25 percent. As the first network of Mazda dealers in China, the company will not only be responsible for Mazda6 sales within the Chinese market, but will have sole distribution rights to all future Mazda-branded vehicles to be produced and launched in China. FMSC will also be responsible for spare parts and accessories distribution, and special factory-supplied tools. The company's mid-term goal is to produce and sell over 300,000 units in the Chinese market by 2010.
